Info Hub
How students and staff encounter Info Hub announcements in FuxamLMS — Home widgets, the global feed, and the link to Fuxam Base authoring.
The Info Hub is where your institution publishes official notices — guides, policy updates, deadlines, and operational messages — with control over who sees each post, how urgent it is, and whether readers have opened it.
Everyone with access can read posts in their audience. Creating, editing, pinning, and deleting posts requires an appropriate staff or administrator role.
This page describes how the Info Hub surfaces in FuxamLMS — on your Home dashboard, in the global sidebar, and alongside course work — and how that course context relates to the institution-wide tool documented in Fuxam Base Info Hub. For every authoring action (create, edit, target, pin, templates, analytics), the Base section is the authoritative handbook.
Why it matters
Students and staff cannot succeed if official information is buried in chat threads or one-off emails. Universities need a single noticeboard for registration windows, exam rules, campus closures, onboarding checklists, and compliance reminders — with deliberate control over who sees each post. The Info Hub provides that feed inside Fuxam Web (and complementary visibility on Fuxam Mobile through notifications), so readers encounter authoritative content where they already manage courses and calendars.
Read tracking matters for high-stakes communication: editors can see who opened an announcement rather than assuming an email was read. That is especially valuable for time-sensitive or policy-bearing posts targeted at specific cohorts or user groups.
How it fits
The Info Hub is institution-wide infrastructure in Fuxam Base, alongside Chat and Calendar. It is not a separate per-course tab like Chat or Calendar inside a course shell. Instead, announcements reach learners and staff wherever they work in FuxamLMS:
| Entry point | What you see |
|---|---|
| Info Hub in the left sidebar | Full scrollable feed — cards with title, preview, tags, and priority |
| Home dashboard widgets | Announcements or Pinned Announcements tiles — compact list of recent or pinned posts |
| Inside a course | No separate Info Hub tab; posts in your audience appear in the global feed and widgets while you teach or study in the course shell |
| Fuxam Mobile | Push notifications for Medium and High priority publishes (when enabled); notification center |
The LMS Communication overview situates the Info Hub next to Chat and Emails. Customize your home dashboard explains how Announcements widgets relate to the sidebar Info Hub item.
Info Hub vs course Chat vs email
| Channel | Best for | LMS tie-in |
|---|---|---|
| Info Hub | Official, findable announcements; targeted cohort or role notices; read tracking | Global feed and Home widgets while you work in courses |
| Chat | Two-way course and group coordination | Dedicated Chat tab per course when Course Chat is enabled |
| Emails | Formal outbound messages to selected users, groups, or course participants | Emails sidebar composer; not a course tab |
An urgent room change might start in Chat; the official exam policy belongs in the Info Hub.
Key concepts
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Announcement | A single Info Hub post with title, rich-text body, optional attachments, and metadata (status, priority, tags, audience). |
| Status | Draft (editors only), Published (visible to audience), or Archived (hidden from active views but retained until deleted). |
| Audience / visibility | Everyone (all institution users) or Targeted Audience (roles, named users, groups, and/or cohorts). See Target your audience. |
| Priority | Urgency from No Priority through Urgent; Medium and High can trigger Notify audience when published. See Set priority and tags. |
| Pin | Highlights one published post in the Home dashboard pinned banner. See Pin an announcement. |
| Read receipt | Record when a user opens a published announcement; powers unread badges and analytics. See Read receipts and analytics. |
| Template | Reusable draft layout with optional placeholders. See Manage templates. |
Read announcements as a student or staff member
Most readers interact with the Info Hub by opening posts from the sidebar or Home — not by authoring.
Click Info Hub in the left sidebar, or read Announcements / Pinned Announcements on your Home dashboard.
When you have unread published posts, a numeric badge appears on the Info Hub sidebar item.
Browse announcement cards in the feed. Each card shows the title, tags, and a short preview. Click a card to open the full post.
Opening a published post marks it as read and updates your unread badge.
If your institution has enabled semantic search, the search bar on the main Info Hub page can match meaning as well as keywords. See Search announcements.
What authors do in Fuxam Base
Creating and managing announcements happens in Fuxam Base Info Hub, not inside an individual course settings screen. Authors whose roles allow creating, editing, deleting, or pinning announcements use the Base section for the full workflow:
- Plan audience — institution-wide or targeted at roles, user groups, or cohorts.
- Create — write the post, optionally from a template.
- Configure — set priority and tags; enable notification when appropriate.
- Publish — post goes live to the feed, Home widget, and (if pinned) the Home banner.
- Monitor — use read receipts and analytics for critical notices.

Write a new post, add attachments, and publish or save as draft.

Read receipts and analytics
See who has read a post and view read statistics.
| Capability | Who typically has it | What it allows |
|---|---|---|
| View announcements | All users in the post’s audience | Read published announcements targeted to you |
| Create announcements | Communications staff, administrators | Create announcements and templates |
| Edit announcements | Communications staff, administrators | Edit existing announcements and change status |
| Delete announcements | Communications staff, administrators | Remove announcements |
| Pin announcements | Communications staff, administrators | Pin and unpin published announcements on Home |
Permissions are assigned through roles and permissions.
Best practices
- Publish course-critical notices to the right audience. Targeting a cohort or course-related user group avoids noise for unrelated programmes while still using the institution-wide feed.
- Do not rely on course Chat alone. Teachers should point students to the Info Hub for official deadlines and policies; Chat is for informal coordination. See Chat.
- Pin sparingly. One pinned banner on Home at a time keeps urgency credible. See Pin an announcement.
- Use priority and notifications deliberately. Medium and High priority can notify readers on publish — reserve for time-sensitive content.
- Check read analytics after important posts. Low read rates on a targeted cohort may mean the audience filter was too narrow or the title was unclear.
Common pitfalls
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| Expected announcement not visible | You may be outside the targeted audience; post may still be Draft or Archived |
| Info Hub missing from sidebar | Your institution may not have announcements turned on — ask an administrator |
| Students ask “where was this posted?” | Official content belongs in Info Hub, not only in course Chat or Emails |
| Confusing pinned courses with pinned announcements | Pinned courses are personal LMS shortcuts; pinned announcements are institution posts on Home |
| Duplicate widgets and sidebar | Customize your dashboard — you may not need both Announcements and constant sidebar monitoring |
FAQ
Is there an Info Hub tab inside my course?
No. The Info Hub is institution-wide in Fuxam Base. While you work inside a course, announcements in your audience still appear in the Info Hub sidebar feed and on Home widgets — the same posts, not a separate course copy.
How is this different from the LMS Communication section?
LMS Communication explains how Chat, Emails, and the Info Hub relate to teaching and learning. Fuxam Base Info Hub documents every authoring and management action in full.
Can I see who read an announcement?
Editors with appropriate access can use Read receipts and analytics on published posts. Readers simply open the post; receipts update automatically.
Do announcements appear on mobile?
Published posts can trigger push notifications for Medium and High priority when your institution has announcements enabled. Readers can also use the notification center on Fuxam Mobile.
