Reuse content blocks

Import or sync Content Database blocks and full learning journeys into a course — one-time copy, linked sync, and course-specific settings on copies.

Reuse lets you add database content to a live course without rebuilding blocks from scratch. You can copy blocks once or keep them linked so future updates from the central library flow to your course.

The same pattern applies at two scales: individual blocks from the Content Blocks library, and full structured paths from learning journey databases.

Why it matters

Teachers should spend time on pedagogy and cohort-specific scheduling, not re-uploading the same PDF for the fifteenth section. Reuse connects OrgHub’s central library to the course where students actually enroll. Choosing between a one-time import and linked sync is a governance decision: independence for unique offerings versus a single source of truth for accredited or multi-section content.

How it fits

Reuse is the bridge from database masters to the in-course learning journey. It complements — rather than replaces — building content directly in the course.

Import blocks from the Content Blocks Database

Open the target course and go to the Learning Journey tab.

Open the import action (for example Import Course Data or the content import menu in the editor toolbar).

Choose Content Blocks Database as the source type.

Search and select the blocks to copy. Leave the selection empty to import all blocks from the source.

Optionally enable Override existing content to replace matching content in the course.

Confirm the import. Selected blocks are added to the learning journey.

This is a one-time copy unless you choose Content Block Sync in the next section. After import, configure course-specific settings — due dates, conditions, publish status — on each block in the course. See Edit a learning journey.

Sync blocks and keep them linked

For blocks that should stay aligned with the library:

During import, choose Content Block Sync instead of a one-time copy — blocks are copied and linked to the database source.

Alternatively, from the course editor, use Save to database → Copy and link on existing blocks to create linked library entries.

When the library block changes, run Sync now from the block’s sync panel or use bulk sync from the Content Blocks library table.

Linked blocks show sync status in Table View. Fields synced from the source may be read-only on the course copy.

When the library master changes, edit and sync from OrgHub — or trigger sync from the course block’s sync panel.

Import or sync a full learning journey

To reuse an entire structured journey:

Open the import action in the course Learning Journey editor.

Choose Learning Journeys for a one-time copy, or Learning Journey Sync to copy and keep the course linked to the database.

Select the learning journey database as the source.

Confirm. The course must be empty before a full journey import or sync is allowed.

After linking, edit the master database in OrgHub and sync from database Settings to update all linked courses.

With Learning Journey Sync active, the course shows: This course is linked to a learning journey database. Edit the database course and sync instead. — journey content is maintained in OrgHub, not locally.

Add a single library block to a section

In Table View, click Add block inside the target section.

When available, pick a block from the database rather than creating a new type from scratch.

Configure course-specific settings — due date, conditions, publish status — on the course copy after it is placed.

This path adds one library block into an existing course structure without importing the entire library. It suits mixing central assets into a mostly local journey.

Best practices

Choose Content Block Sync or Learning Journey Sync when accreditation, quality assurance, or multi-section consistency requires a single master.
Choose one-time import when the course will diverge significantly after adopting a starting template.
Apply due dates, start dates, conditions, and publish status after import on the course copy — the library stores shared learning material, not cohort scheduling.
For full journey sync, create or clear the target course before teachers add local blocks.

Common pitfalls

Importing a full journey into a course that already has content — blocked by design; use block-level import or start with an empty course.
Expecting due dates to import from the library — library blocks omit course-specific settings; configure them on the copy per Add a content block.
Editing synced journey content in the course — for Learning Journey Sync, edit the database in OrgHub and sync instead.

FAQ

What is the difference between import and sync?

Import (without sync) copies content once. Sync modes copy and create a link so future database edits can be pushed to the course.

Can I mix database blocks with locally created blocks?

Yes. Import or add individual library blocks into a course journey that also contains blocks built directly in the course.

What does Override existing content do?

During block import, it replaces matching content already in the course. Use with care when students may have started work.

How do I stop syncing?

Use Break link from the block sync panel or library sync controls. See Edit a content block.
