Duplicate an announcement

Copy an Info Hub template to create a new draft template you can edit separately.

Duplicate an announcement in the current product means copying an existing template — not a regular published announcement — so you can start from the same layout, placeholders, and visibility defaults without altering the original. Bulk duplication runs from the Templates tab and produces new Draft template records you can customise independently.

Why it matters

Communications teams often maintain a library of standard formats: welcome messages, exam-period reminders, policy acknowledgements, and intake checklists. Duplicating a proven template is faster and safer than rebuilding structure from scratch — especially when templates include variable placeholders (such as a recipient name or program name) and pre-configured audience defaults for a recurring recipient pattern.

Because the duplicate is a separate record, you can adapt one copy for a new cohort or user group without risking accidental changes to the master template other authors still rely on.

How it fits

Duplication sits in the template workflow, not the day-to-day announcement feed:

  1. Maintain master templates on the Templates tab — see Manage templates.
  2. Duplicate selected templates to create variants (for example, “Welcome — Undergraduate” copied to “Welcome — Graduate”).
  3. Edit the copy or use Assign to spawn a new announcement pre-filled from the duplicate.

Regular published announcements are not bulk-duplicated in the current UI. To send similar content again, create from an existing template or duplicate the template first, then assign.

Duplicate a template

Open Info Hub and switch to the Templates tab.

Select one or more templates using the row checkboxes.

Open Bulk Actions and choose Duplicate Templates.

Fuxam creates a new template for each selected item.

What is copied

Each duplicate includes:

  • Title — same as the original, with (Copy) appended
  • Content — full template body, including placeholder fields
  • Placeholders — all defined placeholder keys and default values
  • Visibility settings — same visibility type and targeted role/user assignments as the original
  • Status — always Draft
  • Pinned — always unpinned

The duplicate is a separate template record. Editing the copy does not change the original.

What is not copied to live announcements automatically

Duplication creates templates only. Nothing is published to the Info Hub feed, Home widget, or mobile notification center until you Assign the template and publish a new announcement from it.

Edit the copy

After duplication, find the new template in the Templates list (look for the (Copy) suffix in the title). Open it to edit, or use Assign to create a new announcement from it. See Manage templates.

From the assigned announcement flow you can adjust title, audience, priority, and every field before publishing — the duplicate template is a starting point, not a finished post.

Best practices

  • Rename after duplicating — replace the generic (Copy) suffix with a meaningful title (for example, “Exam rules — Law faculty”) so authors can find the right template quickly.
  • Review visibility on every copy — duplicated visibility settings may still point at roles or groups from the original; confirm targeting matches the new use case.
  • Keep one canonical master — treat the unduplicated template as the source of truth; merge improvements back manually rather than letting many divergent copies drift.
  • Use Assign for one-off sends — duplicate when you need a lasting template variant; use Assign directly on the master when you only need a single announcement.

Common pitfalls

Pitfall What to do instead
Expecting to duplicate a published announcement from the main feed Bulk Duplicate is template-only; create a new announcement or assign from a template.
Publishing without reviewing placeholders Fill placeholder values in the creation form before Publish.
Assuming cohort targeting copied correctly Open the copy and verify Targeted Audience rows still match the intended cohorts or groups.

FAQ

Can I duplicate more than one template at a time?

Yes. Select multiple rows with checkboxes, then choose Duplicate Templates from Bulk Actions. Each selection becomes its own new draft template.

Will the duplicate be published automatically?

No. Duplicates are always Draft templates. Use Assign or create an announcement to produce a published post.

Does duplicating affect the original template?

No. The duplicate is an independent record. Changes to either template do not sync to the other.
