Submit a hand-in (students)
Upload files for a Hand-in content block, add an optional comment, submit to your teacher, and update your work before the deadline closes.
A Hand-in block asks you to upload a file or set of files as your submission for a task or assignment. Your teacher can then review what you submitted and give you a grade. Hand-ins are one of the main assignment-style blocks in the learning journey — alongside tests, exams, and Workbench documents — and they are the usual path when the expected product is a document, slide deck, spreadsheet, or similar file.
In assessment terms, a hand-in is often summative (it counts toward evaluation of what you have learned) or a substantial milestone task. Your teacher may also use lighter blocks such as Tests for formative practice. Either way, the Hand-in workflow is the same: open the block, upload, submit, and — while allowed — update.
Why it matters
File-based assignments remain central in university courses: essays, lab reports, portfolios, code archives, and presentation decks. Submitting inside FuxamLMS keeps your work tied to the correct course, deadline, and teacher review queue. You avoid informal channels (personal email, chat) that are easy to lose and hard to grade consistently.
Submitting on time also protects you: once the hand-in period ends or grades are published, updates may no longer be possible. Knowing how to upload, confirm, and change a file before that point reduces last-minute risk.

Before you start
- Open the correct course and find the Hand-in in the Learning Journey tab.
- Check the due date and any start date or conditions. If the block is locked, complete the required earlier blocks first.
- Prepare files in the formats your teacher accepts. The block shows which file types are allowed.
Open the hand-in block
Open your course and go to the Learning Journey tab.
Find the Hand-in block in the list and click on it to open it.
Upload your file
In the hand-in area, click Upload or drag and drop your file onto the upload field.
Select the file from your device. You can upload multiple files at once if the block allows it.
Optionally, click + Add Comment to include a note for your teacher alongside your submission.
Submit your hand-in
After uploading, review the file shown in the upload area.
Click Submit hand-in in the action bar at the bottom of the block.
You will see the confirmation message: You have handed in your work. Your submission is now visible to your teacher.
Uploading alone is not enough — you must click Submit hand-in so the teacher sees a completed submission.
Update a submission
You can change or replace your file after submitting, as long as the hand-in deadline has not passed and your teacher has not locked the block.
Re-open the Hand-in block in the Learning Journey.
Click Change file and upload the replacement file.
Click Update submission to confirm the change.
Best practices
- Submit a first complete version early, then use Change file / Update submission for refinements while the window is open.
- Keep a local copy of what you uploaded; do not rely only on the platform during drafting.
- Match the filename to the assignment (course, task, your name) if your teacher asked for a naming pattern.
- If the block is locked by conditions, resolve earlier journey steps before the deadline rather than waiting until the due date.
Common pitfalls
- Uploading a file but forgetting Submit hand-in — the teacher may not see a finished submission.
- Waiting until after the hand-in has ended to fix a wrong file — updates are then blocked.
- Uploading an unsupported file type when the block lists accepted types.
- Looking for the grade inside the Hand-in immediately; grades appear after your teacher enters and publishes them — check the Management tab when available.
FAQ
Can I submit more than one file?
Yes — you can upload multiple files at once if the block allows it.
Can I change my file after submitting?
Yes, until the hand-in has ended and as long as your teacher has not locked the block. Use Change file, then Update submission.
Where do I see my grade?
After your teacher publishes grades, you can typically find them via your course records and the Management tab. Grades are not visible to students until they are published.
