Follow the learning journey (students)
Open the Learning Journey tab, start or continue learning, track progress, and complete blocks with due dates and conditions.
The Learning Journey tab is your student view of the course path: the structured sequence of content you need to complete. Content is organised into sections, and sometimes there are standalone blocks outside any section. Each step is a content block — reading, video, quiz, hand-in, or another activity your teachers have published.

Why it matters
A learning journey turns a pile of materials into a guided path. Progress bars, due dates, and conditions (such as “complete the previous block first”) help you pace yourself and meet programme expectations. Completing blocks is often what feeds grades, submissions, and attendance-related work elsewhere in the course.

Start or continue the learning journey
Open your course and click the Learning Journey tab.
If you have not started yet, click Start learning. If you have already begun, click Continue learning to jump to where you left off.
Click any content block to open it. Some blocks require you to complete previous blocks first — these appear locked until their dependencies are met.
Track your progress
A progress bar at the top of the Learning Journey shows how many blocks you have completed out of the total. Within each section, you can see how far through that section you are.
The status of each block is indicated visually:
- Blocks you have not started appear as open.
- Blocks in progress show partial completion.
- Completed blocks are marked with a checkmark.
- Blocks with a missed deadline are flagged.
Due dates and conditions
Some content blocks have a due date — the date by which you should complete that block. Others have a start date before which they are not yet available. Blocks can also be locked with a condition, such as requiring you to complete a previous block first.
Treat due dates as academic commitments even when the UI still lets you open a late block — your institution’s policy on late work may still apply to grading.
Study progress summary
At the top of the Learning Journey you can see your overall progress as a count — for example, “12 of 30 blocks.” Use this to gauge how much remains before you finish the course.
Student vs teacher at a glance
Read-only progress view: sections, blocks, statuses, due dates, locked steps, and Start learning / Continue learning. You complete published content; you do not add sections or change conditions.

Best practices
- Check start dates early in the week so newly unlocked blocks do not surprise you before a deadline.
- Complete dependency chains in order — skipping ahead is often blocked by design.
- For Hand-in blocks, follow Submit a hand-in so files and comments reach your teacher correctly.
- Align journey deadlines with your course calendar so exam weeks and attendance sessions do not collide.
Common pitfalls

| Block is locked | Complete the preceding required block; read any “Depends on previous content” message |
| Block not visible | It may be unpublished, not yet past its start date, or you may be in the wrong course |
| Progress seems stuck | Confirm you fully completed the block (for example submitted a hand-in), not only opened it |
| Missed deadline flag | Contact your teacher about late policy; the journey still shows the flag for awareness |
FAQ
Can I open blocks in any order?
Only if teachers have not set conditions. Many journeys require earlier blocks first. Locked blocks stay unavailable until dependencies are met.
Where do I see my grades for journey blocks?
Published grades appear through the course grade overview (when you have access) and in your Management tab records. Teachers publish from View and publish course grades.
What if the Learning Journey tab is missing?
The Learning Journey feature may be disabled for that course, or your institution may not expose it. Ask your teacher or check whether content is delivered another way (for example SCORM-only courses still use the Learning Journey area when the feature is on).
