Edit a course

Update course details, codes, tags, status, and capacity from the OrgHub Courses table or from Course Settings inside the course.

Editing a course keeps the institution catalog accurate as offerings evolve — renamed sections, adjusted capacity, corrected codes, or updated branding. In OrgHub, changes happen in two complementary places: quick inline edits on the Courses table for codes, status, and tags; and the full Course Settings page inside the course for identity, appearance, and capacity. Both paths update the same underlying record that teachers and students see in the LMS course shell.

Understanding when to use each surface saves time: table edits suit registrar-style batch updates across many courses; Course Settings suit deeper changes while reviewing enrollment counts and feature configuration.

Why it matters

Course metadata is not cosmetic. Registrars rely on course codes for exports and integrations; planners match offerings to module versions; students recognize courses by name and banner on their dashboard. Drift between the catalog and reality — wrong code, outdated title, archived course still marked active — causes enrollment errors, planning mismatches, and support tickets.

OrgHub editing is the authoritative path for institution-wide properties. Teachers may edit learning journey content inside the LMS, but catalog identity and administrative fields are controlled here.

How it fits

Edit location Best for
Courses table Course code, Active/Archived status, tags across many rows
Course Settings → Course Details Banner, icon, name, description, capacity, appointment color
Course settings (full page) Features, visibility, grading, learning journey source
Manage enrollments Participant list and roles

When a course is linked to a module version, academic workflows may also surface names from the module catalog. Keep course and module naming aligned when both apply — especially for cohort study plans that reference the module.

Key concepts

Field Where edited Notes
Course code Courses table (inline) Requires permission to update courses (or write access on that course’s structure)
Status Courses table dropdown Active or Archived — see Archive a course
Tags Courses table or Course Settings Institution labels for filtering
Course name Course Settings Up to 100 characters; updates the live course
Capacity Course Settings Maximum participants; enrollment count shown alongside
Banner, icon, appointment color Course Settings Visual identity and calendar display

How to open a course from OrgHub

Go to OrgHub → Management → Courses.

Click the course name in the table to open the course dashboard.

Use the course sidebar to navigate to Course Settings or Users depending on what you need to change.

You can also hover a course name to preview key details without leaving the table.

How to edit fields in the Courses table

Some properties can be updated directly from OrgHub without opening the course:

Column What you can change
Course code Edit the code inline, or select Generate code when no code is set. Save pending code edits with the unsaved-changes bar.
Status Switch between Active and Archived using the status dropdown.
Tags Add, remove, or edit tags assigned to the course.

Changes to course codes require permission to update courses in course management (or write access on that course’s structure).

How to edit fields in Course Settings

Open Course Settings inside the course to update the Course Details section:

  • Banner and icon — cover image and course icon at the top of the settings page.
  • Course name — display title (up to 100 characters).
  • Description — course summary text.
  • Tags — institution course tags.
  • Capacity — maximum participant count, or leave unset for no limit. The current enrollment count is shown next to the capacity field.
  • Appointment color — calendar color for this course.

An unsaved-changes banner appears when you have pending edits. Select Save to apply them.

For feature toggles, grading configuration, and learning journey source — beyond the Course Details section — see Course settings. Institution-wide booking and waitlist rules are not edited here — see Institution settings overview.

Best practices

  • Edit codes before enrollment exports. If your institution syncs codes to external systems, finalize codes in the table before bulk enrollment.
  • Check capacity against planned cohort size. Compare the capacity field with expected enrollments from study programs and cohorts.
  • Coordinate renames with teachers. A mid-term name change updates student-facing labels immediately; inform teaching staff so materials and announcements stay consistent.
  • Use status for retirement, not deletion. Prefer Archived over delete when historical data must remain — see Archive a course.

Common pitfalls

Pitfall What to do
Changes not visible Confirm you clicked Save on the unsaved-changes banner in Course Settings
Cannot edit course code Verify permission to update courses or write access on that course’s structure
Name mismatch in planning views Align course name with linked module version display name
Archived course still enrolling Set Status to Archived and review manage enrollments

FAQ

Does editing here change the learning journey content?

No. Journey structure and content blocks are edited in the LMS learning journey. This page covers catalog identity and Course Details settings.

Can I edit multiple courses at once?

Course codes and tags can be edited across rows in the table, then saved together. Name, banner, and capacity require opening each course’s Course Settings.

Where do LMS teachers edit course features?

Teachers with appropriate permissions use Course Settings inside the course. Administrators follow Course settings for the full OrgHub-oriented guide.
