Send a message
Compose chat messages in Fuxam with text, mentions, emoji, attachments, and reactions, and use reply, edit, delete, and pin actions.
Sending a message is the core act of Chat, and the composer at the bottom of every conversation does more than plain text: you can direct a message at a specific person with a mention, share files and images, react quickly, and edit or pin what you have sent. Knowing these tools turns a basic chat into an efficient way to coordinate.
Once you have opened a conversation, use the message composer at the bottom of the chat panel to participate.
Why it matters
In a busy channel, how you send something matters as much as what you send. A mention makes sure the right person notices; an attachment keeps a file next to the discussion about it; a reaction acknowledges a message without adding noise; pinning keeps the one thing everyone needs at the top. Using these deliberately keeps conversations readable and makes sure important messages don’t get lost in the scroll.
Send text
Open a conversation from the chat sidebar.
Click the message input at the bottom of the conversation (for example, Enter a new message).
Type your message. Press Enter to send, or click Send.
Press Shift + Enter to add a new line without sending. This is the key to writing a readable multi-line message instead of firing off several fragments.
If you leave mid-compose, Fuxam saves a draft and restores it when you return to that conversation, so a half-written message is never lost.
Mentions
Type @ followed by a name to mention someone in the channel. A member picker opens so you can select the right person.
- Only active channel members can be mentioned.
- In group and course chats, mentions notify the tagged person when they are not viewing the conversation.
Emoji
Open the emoji picker from the message toolbar to insert emoji into your text. Recent emoji are remembered for quick reuse.
Where enabled, the same picker may include a GIF tab for animated images.
Attachments
Share files and images in a message:
- Use Upload File or Upload Image from the attachment menu in the composer.
- Drag and drop files onto the chat panel (Upload anything overlay).
Attachments appear inline in the thread. Shared files are also listed under the Files tab for that conversation, which makes a channel a lightweight place to find “that document we shared last week” without scrolling the whole history.
Reactions and message actions
Hover a message and choose a quick reaction, or open the reaction picker for more emoji. Reactions appear below the message with a count of who responded — a low-noise way to say “seen”, “agreed”, or “thanks” without a new message.
You can also:
- Reply to a specific message to keep a thread of context clear.
- Edit or Delete your own messages to fix or retract what you sent.
- Pin important messages, which replaces any existing pinned message in that channel.

Best practices
- Compose in one message using Shift + Enter rather than sending many fragments that trigger repeated notifications.
- Mention sparingly and precisely so mentions keep their meaning.
- Attach files to the relevant channel so they surface later under the Files tab.
- React instead of replying when a simple acknowledgement is all that is needed.
Common pitfalls
- Accidental sends — pressing Enter sends; use Shift + Enter for line breaks.
- Blocked attachments — some channels are read-only or disable files; only moderators can post there.
- Losing a pin — pinning a new message removes the old pin.
