Send messages and use message actions
Send text, photos, files, and mentions in Fuxam Mobile chat — use long-press message actions, pinned messages, shared files, and polls; and how this relates to web messaging.
Open any conversation from the Chat tab to send messages and interact with your classmates or colleagues. Fuxam Mobile gives you a full message box — text, attachments, and @mentions — plus long-press actions on individual messages and header tools for pinned content, shared files, and member lists.
This is the mobile counterpart to sending a message in Fuxam Base Chat on the web. Messages you send here appear in the same thread on Fuxam Web, and vice versa.
Why it matters
Chat only works when people can express what they need — a short answer, a photo of a whiteboard, a file attachment, or a mention that pulls someone into the thread. Long-press actions add moderation and organization: copy a reference, reply in context, flag inappropriate content, or pin an important announcement so it does not scroll away.
Understanding read-only channels and poll limitations prevents frustration: some channels are view-only by design, and poll creation stays on the web platform.
How it fits
| Related area | Relationship |
|---|---|
| Send a message on web | Message box on the web for the same conversations |
| Chat in Fuxam Base | Institution-wide messaging home on Fuxam Web |
| Find and filter conversations | Return to the list to switch threads |
| Start a new chat | Open a conversation before you can send messages |
| LMS communication chat | Course-context chat on the web — points to Base Chat for the full reference |
Key concepts
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Mention | Tagging someone with @ so they are notified in the channel. |
| Long-press action | A menu opened by pressing and holding a message. |
| Read Only channel | A channel where you can read messages but cannot send new ones. |
| Pinned message | A message fixed at the top of the channel for easy reference. |
Send a message
Tap the message field (Type a message) at the bottom of the conversation.
Type your text. Use @ to mention someone in the channel.
Attach content using the input toolbar — send photos from your gallery, take a picture with the camera, or attach files.
Tap Send.
Use @mentions when you need a specific person’s attention in a busy group or course channel. Attach photos or files when text alone is not enough — lab results, scanned forms, or screenshots of schedule changes.
Long-press message actions
Long-press any message to open the action menu:
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Copy message | Copy text to your clipboard |
| Reply | Quote the message in your reply |
| Flag message | Report the message to a moderator |
| Pin to Conversation / unpin | Pin important messages (or unpin if already pinned) |
| Edit message / Delete message | Available on your own messages only |
Reply keeps context visible in busy threads. Flag message is the appropriate step when content violates institutional rules — it alerts moderators without deleting the message yourself. Edit and Delete apply only to messages you sent.
Conversation tools
From the conversation header, open:
- Pinned Messages — view messages pinned in this channel
- Shared Files — browse images, files, and GIFs shared in the conversation
- Members — see who is in the channel
Pinned messages are useful for syllabi links, room changes, or deadline reminders. Shared Files collects attachments so you do not have to scroll the full history. Members confirms who can see the conversation — especially helpful in group and course channels.
Polls
If someone shares a poll in a conversation, you can vote on it directly in the chat. Creating new polls is not supported in the mobile app — use the web platform if you need to create one.
Read-only channels are common for announcements or moderated course feeds. If you cannot type in the message field, check whether the channel is read-only before assuming a technical fault.
Best practices
- Use @ mentions sparingly in large channels — only when you need that person’s input.
- Pin durable references (links, policies, exam dates) so others can find them under Pinned Messages.
- Use Reply instead of quoting manually — it preserves the original message context.
- For sensitive reports, use Flag message rather than public call-outs in the channel.
- Before attaching large files, consider whether a link or a smaller image would suffice for mobile readers.
Common pitfalls
| Issue | What to try |
|---|---|
| Cannot send messages | The channel may be Read Only — you can read but not compose. |
| No edit or delete on a message | Edit message and Delete message appear only on your own messages. |
| Need to create a poll | Poll creation is not supported in the mobile app — use the web platform. |
| Cannot find an old attachment | Open Shared Files from the conversation header instead of scrolling. |
FAQ
Do messages sent on mobile appear on the web?
Yes. Fuxam Mobile and Fuxam Base Chat share the same threads. Messages sync across devices.
Why can I vote on a poll but not create one?
The mobile app supports voting on polls shared in a conversation. Creating new polls requires the web platform.
What happens when I flag a message?
Flag message reports the content to a moderator for review. It does not remove the message from the channel.
