Manage push notifications

Control push notification categories and the device master switch under Account → Notification Preferences in Fuxam Mobile.

Push notifications alert you on your device even when Fuxam Mobile is in the background — a new chat message while you are in another app, a cancelled lecture before you leave home, or an urgent Info Hub notice from your institution. Notification Preferences under Account let you decide which categories may send those lock-screen alerts on this device, independent of what appears later in the notification center.

Why it matters

Mobile alerts are high-attention by design. Without category-by-category control, every calendar tweak and every group-chat message competes with genuinely urgent institutional communications. Universities rely on timely pushes for safety notices, schedule disruptions, and deadline reminders — but students and staff also need quiet hours and focus time. Per-category toggles balance reach (the institution can contact you when it matters) with your choice (you decide what breaks through on your phone).

Push preferences apply per device. The same account on a tablet and a phone can use different settings — for example, messages on your phone and silence on a shared family iPad.

How it fits

Push delivery is only the first step. When you tap an alert, Fuxam Mobile typically opens the related item — a chat thread, appointment, or announcement — and also records the event in the notification center. Turning off a push category does not stop the underlying activity; it only stops the lock-screen alert. You can still see those events in the center when you open the app.

Before you start

Open Account → Notification Preferences in Fuxam Mobile. If the app shows Enable Notifications instead of category toggles, your operating system has denied notification permission — complete the platform steps below before individual toggles can deliver alerts.

Changes save automatically. You can revisit Account → Notification Preferences anytime to update your preferences.

Open notification preferences

Open the Account area in Fuxam Mobile.

Tap Notification Preferences.

Review the All push notifications master switch and the category sections below it.

Master toggle

All push notifications is the master switch for every push on this device. Turn it off to silence all pushes, or leave it on and customize individual categories below.

Setting When to use it
All push notifications on You want selective alerts — configure each category below
All push notifications off You want no lock-screen alerts from Fuxam on this device; you will still see in-app items in the notification center when you open the app

Notification categories

Toggles are organized into sections. When push notifications are enabled, adjust each category independently. Each toggle includes a short description of when that notification type is sent.

General

  • All push notifications — master switch for this device

Appointments

  • Appointment updated — when an appointment on your calendar is changed
  • Appointment cancelled — when an appointment is cancelled

These align with your mobile calendar. After an alert, open View your schedule or tap through from the notification center to Appointment details for the full context, meeting link, or absence options.

Messages

  • New Messages — when someone sends you a chat message

Chat pushes complement unread badges on the Chat tab. If group channels are busy, consider leaving New Messages on but reviewing the center with the Chat filter instead of disabling chat entirely — so direct messages still reach you.

Info Hub

  • Urgent Info Hub Announcements — when your institution publishes an urgent announcement

Urgent announcements are authored and targeted on Fuxam Web in Info Hub. Staff can set priority and audience before publishing; see Set priority and tags and Target your audience for how those posts are created. On mobile, Urgent Info Hub Announcements is the push channel for high-priority notices — keep it enabled if your institution uses mobile for emergency or time-critical campus communication.

Academic

  • Content Block Deadline — when a course content block deadline is approaching
  • Document Completion Requested — when a document is assigned to you
  • Unexcused Absence — notifications about unexcused absences

Academic toggles cover course and administrative workflows that may not appear under Chat or Appointments. Students approaching submission dates often keep Content Block Deadline enabled; staff coordinating document collection may rely on Document Completion Requested.

Operating system permission

Tap Open Settings and enable Notifications for Fuxam, then return and adjust your preferences.

Tap Open Settings, find Fuxam under Apps, and enable notification permission.

After OS permission is granted, return to Account → Notification Preferences and confirm All push notifications and your chosen categories are on.

Best practices

  • Keep urgent Info Hub enabled if your institution publishes safety or closure notices through Info Hub.
  • Use appointment toggles during term when timetable changes are frequent; you can rely on the Calendar tab when changes are rare.
  • Separate devices — enable messages on your personal phone; disable or limit pushes on secondary devices.
  • Review the center regularly — with some categories off, open the notification center so you do not miss non-urgent items that no longer push.
  • Do not confuse push with email — Fuxam Mobile push settings do not control email invitations or other channels configured elsewhere on Fuxam Web.

Common pitfalls

Situation What to do
Toggles are on but no alerts arrive Grant OS permission via Enable Notifications; check device Focus or Do Not Disturb.
No Info Hub section Announcements may not be enabled for your institution — contact your administrator.
Still flooded by chat Turn off New Messages temporarily, or triage with the Chat filter in the notification center instead of reacting to every lock-screen alert.
Master switch off All categories are silenced regardless of individual toggles — turn All push notifications back on first.

FAQ

Do push settings sync across my phone and laptop?

Push preferences are per mobile device. Fuxam Web in a browser does not use these same OS push toggles. Each phone or tablet running Fuxam Mobile has its own Notification Preferences.

If I turn off New Messages, can I still read chat?

Yes. Chat remains fully available under the Chat tab. You simply will not receive lock-screen alerts for new messages on that device.

What counts as an urgent Info Hub announcement?

Urgent priority is set when staff create or edit posts in Info Hub. Only those urgent posts trigger Urgent Info Hub Announcements pushes when the feature is enabled for your institution.

Will I still see notifications in the app if push is off?

Generally, events can still appear in the notification center when you open the Notifications tab. Push only controls background OS alerts.
