Check in with a QR code
Scan a session QR code on the Check-In tab in Fuxam Mobile to mark your attendance — steps, failures, and how this relates to web check-in.
Use the Check-In tab to scan a QR code displayed by your instructor or organizer and confirm your attendance. QR check-in is a self-service alternative to waiting in line for manual roll call: point your camera at the code, and Fuxam records your presence against that calendar appointment.
On Fuxam Web, students can also check in via QR code, rotating QR, or an attendance key — see Check in to an appointment. Fuxam Mobile centers the scanning flow on the Check-In tab for speed at the classroom door.
Why it matters
Attendance often affects exam eligibility, visa compliance, or programme requirements. Self-service check-in reduces queue time at the start of sessions and gives you immediate confirmation that you were counted. For instructors, it automates the bulk of presence recording so they can focus on teaching and handle only exceptions in Take attendance or Manage attendance on mobile.
Rotating QR codes — when your institution uses them — refresh on a timer so a screenshot of an old code is less useful outside the allowed window.
How it fits
| Related area | Relationship |
|---|---|
| Check in to an appointment on web | Web and key-based check-in; shared error explanations |
| Show a check-in QR code | How staff display the code you scan |
| See upcoming sessions and recent check-ins | Today’s sessions and your check-in history below the scanner |
| Take attendance on web | Staff correct or complete records after students check in |
| View your schedule | Full calendar when you need more than today’s list |
Key concepts
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| QR code check-in | Scanning a displayed code to register attendance for a session. |
| Rotating QR | A code that refreshes on a timer for added security — staff configure this when showing the code. |
| Check-in window | The period when scanning is allowed — set by staff (whole day, during event, or one hour before and after). |
How to check in
Open the Check-In tab.
Tap Start Scanning.
Allow camera permission when prompted. The app needs camera access to scan QR codes.
Point your camera at the QR code. Position the code inside the frame until it is clearly visible.
Wait for the result. On success, a sheet confirms You have successfully checked in. Tap Done to close it.
Arrive within the check-in window your instructor configured. If you are unsure whether check-in is open yet, see See upcoming sessions and recent check-ins for today’s sessions or ask the session organizer.
If check-in fails
When scanning fails, a sheet shows Check-In Failed with an explanation (for example, the code expired, check-in is not open yet, or you already checked in). Tap Retry or Scan Again to try again.
Common reasons for failure align with the web check-in documentation:
- The code expired (especially with rotating QR)
- Check-in is not open yet or has closed for this session
- You already checked in for this appointment
- Network error — check-in requires an active internet connection
Check-in requires an active internet connection. If you see a network error, check your connection and try again.
Best practices
- Open the Check-In tab before you reach the front of the queue so camera permission is already granted.
- Hold the phone steady and fit the entire QR code inside the frame; use zoom if the code is on a distant projector.
- After success, glance at Recent Check-Ins on the same tab to confirm the session appears — see See upcoming sessions and recent check-ins.
- If scanning fails once, read the explanation on the Check-In Failed sheet before retrying — you may already be recorded.
Common pitfalls
| Issue | What to try |
|---|---|
| Camera permission denied | Enable Camera in device settings (see iOS/Android tabs above), then return to the app. |
| Code too small or far | Use the scanner zoom controls; move closer if safe to do so. |
| Already checked in | The failure sheet explains this — no need to scan again. |
| No QR at the session | Confirm with staff that check-in is enabled — they use Show a check-in QR code. |
FAQ
Is mobile check-in the same record as web check-in?
Yes. Scanning on Fuxam Mobile writes to the same appointment attendance record as web check-in. Staff see the result in Take attendance and Manage attendance.
Can I check in without a QR code on mobile?
This page covers QR scanning on the Check-In tab. The web check-in page also describes an attendance key method — use the web platform if your instructor shares a key instead of a QR code.
Where do I see confirmation after checking in?
The success sheet shows You have successfully checked in. Your session also appears under Recent Check-Ins on the Check-In tab.
