Show a check-in QR code (staff)
Display a rotating or fixed QR code from appointment details in Fuxam Mobile so students can scan and check in — validity settings and web attendance context.
If you are staff or an organizer with the right access, you can display a check-in QR code from appointment details so students can scan it on the Check-In tab. The code links the physical session to the digital attendance record on the calendar appointment — the same record staff review in Take attendance on Fuxam Web and Manage attendance on mobile.
Showing a QR code at the door replaces slow manual roll call for large groups. Students self-register by scanning; you correct exceptions afterward rather than marking every name by hand.
Why it matters
Accurate attendance data supports exam eligibility, funding compliance, and early intervention for chronic absence. QR display is the staff-side half of mobile check-in: without a visible code, students cannot use Check in with a QR code. Validity settings control when scanning is allowed so students cannot check in hours early or from outside the session window.
Rotating QR adds a time-limited layer — the code refreshes automatically, which reduces the value of screenshots taken outside the check-in period.

Key concepts
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Check-In QR Code sheet | The full-screen or sheet view with the scannable code. |
| Validity setting | When students are allowed to scan — whole day, during event, or one hour before and after. |
| Rotating QR | A code that refreshes on a timer; Rotation Duration sets how often it changes. |
| Fixed QR | A code that does not rotate — simpler, but less resistant to screenshot reuse. |
How to show a QR code
Open the appointment from your calendar.
Tap Show QR Code.
The Check-In QR Code sheet appears with a code students can scan. A note explains that rotating codes change automatically for security when that mode is enabled.
Hold your device so students can scan the code. Use fullscreen or share options to display it on a larger screen if needed.
Open the appointment from your mobile calendar — the same appointments you manage in FuxamLMS calendar attendance on the web.
Validity settings
Before or while showing the code, you can configure when students are allowed to check in:
| Setting | When scanning is allowed |
|---|---|
| Whole Day | Anytime on the appointment day |
| During Event | Only during the scheduled appointment time |
| 1 Hour Before/After | One hour before and after the session |
| Rotating QR | The code refreshes on a timer for added security |
For rotating codes, you can also set the Rotation Duration (how often the code changes).
Choose During Event or 1 Hour Before/After for most taught sessions — they limit early or late scans. Whole Day suits all-day events or flexible attendance windows. Enable Rotating QR when you want extra protection against shared screenshots.
Best practices
- Test Show QR Code before the room fills — confirm the code loads and students at the back can scan with zoom if needed.
- Match validity to your policy: stricter windows reduce fraudulent check-ins from outside the room.
- Use fullscreen or share to a projector for large lectures so one phone does not become a bottleneck.
- After the session, review attendance in Manage attendance or Take attendance and fix edge cases.
Common pitfalls
| Issue | What to try |
|---|---|
| QR code fails to load | Tap to retry or check your internet connection. |
| QR code is not available for this appointment | Check-in may not be configured for that session — verify appointment setup in calendar attendance. |
| Students cannot scan in time | Widen the window to 1 Hour Before/After or check Rotation Duration if codes expire too quickly. |
| Code too small on phone | Use share or fullscreen to display on a larger screen. |
FAQ
Do students need Fuxam Mobile to check in?
This page covers displaying a QR for the mobile Check-In tab. Students can also check in on the web — see Check in to an appointment.
What is the difference between rotating and fixed QR?
Rotating QR refreshes on a timer (Rotation Duration). Fixed codes stay the same until you close the sheet. Rotating codes are harder to reuse via screenshots after the window closes.
Where do I see who checked in?
Open the appointment and tap Attendance — see Manage attendance. The web Take attendance panel shows the same data.
