Switch institution, language, and theme
Change your active institution, app language between English and German, and light or dark theme from the Fuxam mobile Account tab.
The Account tab groups personal identity settings with app-wide preferences that shape how you work in Fuxam Mobile. Institution selects which university context you are in when you belong to more than one. Language switches the interface between English and Deutsch. Theme controls light or dark appearance — including respect for your device’s system theme when configured that way. Together, these options let one installation of the app serve multiple affiliations and individual reading preferences without reinstalling or creating separate accounts.
Why it matters
Students and staff at partner institutions, exchange programs, or dual-enrollment arrangements may hold accounts at more than one university. Switching institution ensures calendar appointments, chat channels, and notifications reflect the campus you are actively working in — not a previous semester’s context. Language and theme preferences reduce friction for bilingual campuses and for users who rely on dark mode in evening study sessions or bright lecture halls.
How it fits
All three settings live on the Account tab alongside your Student ID Card and profile. They are available after Sign in and independent of the Complete your profile information sheet — though switching institution may surface different required fields or content for each affiliation.
| Setting | Affects immediately |
|---|---|
| Institution | Calendar, chat, notifications, and other data for that institution |
| Language | All tabs and system messages — English or Deutsch only |
| Theme | Calendar, Chat, Check-In, Notifications, and Account |
On Fuxam Web, each institution maintains its own user directory and configuration through User Management. Mobile institution switching mirrors that separation — you work inside one institution at a time, similar to how web sign-in is linked to the organization you sign in to.
Key concepts
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Institution | The university or organization whose data — schedule, messages, announcements — the app currently loads. |
| Institution switch | Changing the active institution; the app reloads your data for the selected affiliation. |
| Theme | Light or dark appearance for the app interface. May follow the device system theme when configured that way. |
| Language | Interface language — English or Deutsch — applied across tabs and system messages. |
How to switch institution
If you belong to multiple institutions, tap Institution to see your list.
Tap Institution on the Account screen.
Select the institution you want to use.
The app switches context and reloads your data for that institution.
You see a confirmation when the switch succeeds. Calendar, chat, and notifications then reflect the selected institution.
How to change language
Tap Language to choose English or Deutsch.
Open the Account tab.
Tap Language.
Select English or Deutsch.
The new language applies immediately and is remembered when you restart the app. Some labels may require a brief reload to update everywhere.
Language preference is stored on the device for your account. It does not change the language of user-generated chat messages or institution-authored announcement text — only the app’s own labels and system messages.
How to change theme
Tap Theme to toggle between light and dark appearance. The app also follows your device’s system theme automatically when configured that way.
Open the Account tab.
Tap Theme.
Choose light or dark appearance, or rely on your device system setting when the app is configured to follow it.
Theme changes apply right away across Calendar, Chat, Check-In, Notifications, and Account.
Reference
| Setting | Options documented | Persists across app restart |
|---|---|---|
| Institution | One institution from your affiliation list | Yes — active until you switch again |
| Language | English, Deutsch | Yes |
| Theme | Light, dark, or follow system when configured | Yes |
Best practices
- Switch Institution at the start of a session when you move between affiliations — before relying on calendar times or chat threads for the day.
- Set Language to the language you read most comfortably for system labels; keep in mind that course content and peer messages may still appear in other languages.
- Use dark theme in low-light study environments; use light theme or system default if you project or share your screen and need maximum contrast.
- Pair institution checks with Manage push notifications review when you enroll at a second university — notification categories may differ per institution.
Common pitfalls
| Pitfall | What to do |
|---|---|
| Empty calendar after switch | Pull to refresh on Calendar — View your schedule |
| Wrong chat conversations visible | Confirm Institution matches the campus you expect |
| Some labels still in the old language | Wait for a brief reload or restart the app — language applies immediately but a few labels may lag |
| Theme does not match expectation | Check whether the app follows your device system theme when configured that way |
