Keep the app up to date

How Fuxam Mobile delivers over-the-air updates and App Store or Google Play releases, and how to check your installed version.

Keeping the app up to date ensures you receive bug fixes, security patches, and new features for Fuxam Mobile. Fuxam delivers updates in two ways: background updates that download silently while you use the app, and store releases through the Apple App Store or Google Play when a full new app version is required.

Why it matters

Mobile apps at universities handle attendance proof, institutional messaging, and personal identifiers. Running an outdated build can mean failed check-ins, missing chat features, or connection problems after the service is updated. Background updates let Fuxam ship small fixes quickly; store releases handle larger changes that Apple and Google require to go through their app stores.

How it fits

Updates interact with two areas of the app you already use:

Update type Where you notice it Handbook reference
Background Brief Updating App screen This page
Optional store release Notifications tab — New app version available Use the notification center
Required store release Blocking alert before you can continue Troubleshooting
Installed version Bottom of Account tab Your student ID and profile

Background updates complement — but do not always replace — store installs. When your institution requires a new store version, you must install from the App Store or Google Play even if background updates have already delivered smaller fixes.

Key concepts

Term Meaning
Background update A small update delivered inside the app without visiting the store.
Store update A new app version published to the App Store or Google Play that you install through the platform store app.
Recommended update A newer store version is available; you can continue using the app but should update soon.
Required update The app blocks further use until you install the latest store version.

Background updates

Fuxam keeps the mobile app current in two ways: automatic background updates and updates from the App Store or Google Play.

When a new version is available, the app downloads it in the background. You may briefly see an Updating App screen while the update installs. These updates do not require a trip to the store and apply the next time you open or restart the app.

Store updates

When a newer version is available in the App Store or Google Play, a card appears in your Notifications tab with the title New app version available. Tap Update now to open the store and install the latest version.

If an update is required to continue, the app shows an alert asking you to update from the store before you can keep using it.

Check your version

Your current app version is shown at the bottom of the Account tab. Compare it with the version your institution recommends if you experience issues.

When reporting problems to your institution’s support team, include this version number. It helps staff determine whether you are on a build that already contains a known fix.

Best practices

  • Enable automatic app updates in iOS or Android settings for Fuxam so store releases install overnight on Wi-Fi.
  • When a New app version available card appears, update before the next check-in or exam session — attendance features are sensitive to version mismatches.
  • After any store update, open the app once on a stable connection so any pending background updates can finish on the new app version.
  • If your institution publishes a recommended minimum version, treat it as a support requirement even when the app has not yet shown a required-update alert.

Common pitfalls

Situation What to do
Stuck on Updating App Wait on a strong connection; restart the app once
Update now opens wrong store listing Confirm you installed Fuxam from your institution’s official link
Updated but issues remain Note the App Version on Account and see Troubleshooting
Required alert loop Fully install from the store, then reopen — partial downloads can repeat the prompt

FAQ

Do I need to uninstall before updating from the store?

No. Tap Update now or update from the store listing normally. You typically stay signed in across store updates.

Will background updates use my mobile data?

They can. Prefer Wi-Fi for large downloads if you are on a limited data plan.

Why was I blocked even though I updated yesterday?

A new required release may have shipped since then, or the previous install did not complete. Check the store for another pending update.
