Book and unbook courses
Self-enroll in bookable module courses from My Courses — book a spot, resolve schedule conflicts, join a waitlist when a course is full, and unbook enrollments you created yourself.
When a course is open for self-booking, you pick the section or timetable that suits you and Fuxam enrolls you as a participant. This page covers that flow on the My Courses tab.
Booking applies after your study plan or module election has identified what you should take. It joins you to a specific course instance — distinct from academic elections or administrator assignments.
Why it matters
Universities often run the same module as multiple seminars, lecture groups, or language sections with different timetables and capacity limits. Without self-booking, every placement is manual. With it:
- You can pick the instance that fits your schedule.
- Capacity is enforced with a waitlist when a course is full.
- You can typically reverse bookings you made yourself before commitments harden.
Booking connects academic planning to day-to-day learning: after you book, the course appears in My Courses and you can open it for the learning journey, calendar, and materials.
How it fits
| Path into a course | Who initiates | Can you unbook yourself? |
|---|---|---|
| Self-booking (this page) | You, from My Courses | Yes — for courses you booked yourself |
| Study programme / administrator assignment | Institution | No — contact your administrator |
| Access package | Institution | No — contact your administrator |
| Course bundle | Administrator in OrgHub | No — bundle membership is admin-managed |
Before you start
- You need access to Home and the My Courses tab.
- The course must appear as bookable (listed under Available Courses or Bookable Courses).
- Prefer checking your curriculum first so you book instances that count toward the right modules.
- Review your calendar for clashes before confirming — Fuxam can warn about appointment conflicts, but you still decide whether to proceed.
Key terms
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Bookable course | A course instance your institution has opened for student self-enrollment |
| Book | Join the course as a participant if capacity allows |
| Waitlist | A queue when the course is full; you can see your position (for example, “Full, 3rd in waitlist”) |
| Unbook | Leave a course you booked yourself |
| Scheduling conflict | Overlapping appointments between courses; Fuxam may show a conflict notice |
Open My Courses
Click Home in the sidebar.
Select the My Courses tab.
The My Courses tab shows all courses you are already enrolled in, as well as any courses available for booking.
Book a course
In the My Courses tab, find a course marked as bookable. Available courses are listed in the Available Courses or Bookable Courses section.
Click Book next to the course you want to join.
If Fuxam detects a scheduling conflict — for example, two courses have appointments at the same time — a conflict notice appears. You can choose to Book Anyway or cancel.
Confirm your booking. The course now appears in your enrolled courses list.
After booking, open the course from My Courses (or pin it for quick access) and continue in the student learning journey.
Join a waitlist
If a course is full, a Join Waitlist button appears instead of Book. Clicking it adds you to the waitlist queue. You can see your position in the queue (for example, “Full, 3rd in waitlist”). You will be notified automatically if a spot becomes available and you are admitted.
To leave a waitlist, click Leave Waitlist next to the course.
Unbook a course
Find the course in your My Courses list.
Click Unbook next to the course.
Confirm the action.
Best practices
- Book after you know your constraints. Align bookings with Curriculum requirements and Module Catalog elections so every seat you take counts toward progress.
- Watch capacity early. Popular electives fill quickly; join the waitlist promptly and monitor notifications.
- Separate bundles from booking. If you already have access via a bundle, you usually do not need to book the same course again.
- Unbook cleanly. Freeing a seat you will not use helps waitlisted classmates and keeps your My Courses list accurate.
Common pitfalls
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| No Book button | The course may not be bookable, election or term windows may block it, or you are already enrolled another way |
| Cannot Unbook | The enrollment likely came from an administrator, study programme, access package, or bundle — contact your administrator |
| Conflict notice on booking | Compare calendars; cancel and pick another section, or only choose Book Anyway if you accept the overlap |
| Booked but progress looks wrong | Confirm the course is linked to the intended module in your curriculum; ask your institution if the link is missing |
FAQ
Is booking the same as electing a module?
No. Electing in the Module Catalog chooses a curriculum module (and often a term). Booking joins a specific course instance. Your institution decides whether enrollment follows automatically from election or whether you must book.
What happens when I leave a waitlist?
Clicking Leave Waitlist removes you from the queue for that course. You can join again later if the waitlist is still offered and you still need a place.
Do course bundles use this booking flow?
No. Bundle membership is assigned by administrators. Learners see assigned bundles on Home → Bundles. See Course bundles.
