View your calendar

Navigate the Fuxam calendar and course Calendar tab — day, week, and month views, filters by course or layer, and how this differs from the Base calendar.

The Calendar page in the sidebar shows all appointments you are invited to or responsible for, across every course. You can view by day, week, or month, and filter by course, group, or layer. Separately, each course can expose its own Calendar tab so you can focus on that offering alone.

Together, these views answer a simple question: what am I (or this course) doing, and when? The sidebar calendar is the personal, cross-course timetable; the course tab is the teaching schedule for one LMS shell.

Why it matters

A university schedule is dense: lectures, tutorials, labs, office hours, and one-off events compete for attention. If every course kept its own unofficial list of times, students and staff would reconcile conflicting sources by hand. Viewing appointments in Fuxam keeps one authoritative list — filterable when you need quiet, complete when you need the whole day.

How it fits

View Best for
Sidebar Calendar (Base) Your personal timetable across courses — see Base calendar and View the calendar
Course Calendar tab Planning and attendance for one course — see Manage course appointments

The course tab appears only when Calendar is enabled for that course in Course Settings. Open the course first via Open a course.

On Fuxam Mobile, students browse a related schedule under the mobile calendar — see View your schedule.

Key concepts

Term Meaning
Day / Week / Month Calendar display modes for a single day timeline, a seven-day overview, or a monthly grid
Filter Narrow visible appointments by course, layer, or group
Layer / group Teaching or cohort grouping used to show only relevant appointments
Course calendar Calendar tab scoped to one course

Open the calendar

Click Calendar in the left sidebar.

  • Use the back and forward arrows to move between days, weeks, or months depending on your current view.
  • Click Back to today to return to the current date.
  • Click a specific day in the monthly mini-calendar (if shown) to jump to that date.

Change the view

Use the view selector at the top of the calendar to switch between:

  • Day — see all appointments on a single day in timeline format.
  • Week — see a seven-day overview.
  • Month — see a monthly grid with appointment counts per day.

Day view is usually best when sessions are tightly packed and you care about exact start times. Week view suits weekly teaching patterns. Month view helps spot empty weeks or dense exam periods at a glance.

Filter appointments

Use the filter controls to narrow down what you see:

  • Filter by course to show only appointments from a specific course.
  • Filter by layer or group to see appointments relevant to a particular cohort or teaching group.

Filtering does not delete or hide appointments from other users — it only changes what you see in this view. Clear filters when you need the full personal schedule again.

Course calendar

Each course also has its own Calendar tab. To see only the appointments for a specific course, open that course and click the Calendar tab.

From that tab you can typically create and manage appointments, open attendance for a session, and reach the attendance matrix — see Manage course appointments, Take attendance, and Read the attendance matrix.

Which calendar should I use?

Situation Prefer
“What do I have tomorrow across all courses?” Sidebar Calendar
“I need every session for this seminar and attendance” Course Calendar tab
“I am booking rooms and inviting cohorts institution-wide” Base calendar create flow
“I am a student checking my week on my phone” View your schedule

Best practices

  • Start the week in Week view, then switch to Day on teaching days with back-to-back sessions.
  • Filter by the course you are currently preparing so other programmes do not clutter the grid.
  • Confirm room and format on the appointment detail before you travel or open a video link — location details are part of the appointment, including rooms managed under Rooms.

Common pitfalls

  • Calendar missing from the sidebar — the institution may not have Calendar enabled; contact an administrator.
  • Calendar tab missing inside a course — enable Calendar in Course Settings, or confirm you opened the correct course.
  • Empty after filtering — you may have filtered to a course or layer with no appointments in the visible date range; clear filters or move the date.
