**Campus Management** is the campus administration workspace in Fuxam Web — the place institution staff open when they need to administer academic structure, courses, programs, exams, statistics, and related campus operations. It is the entry point to **FuxamCMS**. This chapter explains how to open Campus Management, what each sidebar section contains, how Favorites work, and what to do when expected pages are missing.

You do not "install" Campus Management separately: if your role grants access to at least one Campus Management page, **Campus Management** appears in the main dashboard navigation. Selecting it lands you on the first page your role is allowed to open — Fuxam chooses that landing automatically so you never have to hunt for a default start screen.

:::info
**What you see is what you are authorized and licensed to use.** Role permissions, feature packages, and institution settings together decide which sidebar pages appear. See [Permissions, features and visibility](/docs/fuxam-web/settings/permissions-and-features) and [Settings overview](/docs/fuxam-web/settings).
:::

## Why it matters

Most operational mistakes in campus systems start with navigation confusion: two colleagues assume they share the same tools, or a new planner cannot find Chronology and invents a workaround outside Fuxam. Campus Management is designed so that visibility is intentional. Understanding the sidebar layout — and the gates behind it — keeps teams aligned and makes permission design deliberate instead of accidental.

For a map of how Campus Management areas connect to the rest of FuxamCMS, start from the [FuxamCMS overview](/docs/fuxam-web/cms/getting-around).

## How it fits

Campus Management sits on top of **Fuxam Base** identity. People, groups, and roles are configured in [User Management](/docs/fuxam-web/base/user-management) and [Roles and permissions](/docs/fuxam-web/base/user-management/roles-and-permissions). Institution-wide switches live in **Settings** — catalogued in [Settings overview](/docs/fuxam-web/settings).

CMS topic areas — [Academic structure](/docs/fuxam-web/cms/academic-structure), [Courses management](/docs/fuxam-web/cms/courses-management), [Programs and planning](/docs/fuxam-web/cms/programs-and-planning), [Exams and reporting](/docs/fuxam-web/cms/exams-and-reporting), and optional add-ons — live behind the sidebar pages described below.

## Before you start

- You need a Fuxam Web account with a role that includes at least one Campus Management-related permission.
- Your institution must have the relevant **FuxamCMS** (or Apply) feature packages for non-core sections.
- Some areas also need an institution setting switched on (for example Exam Center or Statistics reporting).
- If **Campus Management** itself is missing from navigation, ask an institution administrator to review your role — this is almost never a browser issue.

## How to open Campus Management

To open Campus Management, select **Campus Management** from the main dashboard navigation. Fuxam automatically redirects you to the first page your role has permission to access. You do not need to navigate manually to a starting page.

If you cannot see the Campus Management entry in the navigation, contact your institution administrator to review your role's permissions.

:::note
Two users at the same institution can land on different first pages (for example, Courses vs. Curricula) because Fuxam picks the first permitted page for each role. That difference is expected.
:::

## Understand the sidebar sections

The Campus Management sidebar groups pages into four collapsible sections. Sections and individual pages are shown or hidden based on your role's permissions and on which features your institution has enabled. Groups that end up with no visible children are hidden entirely.

### Management

Management contains the core administration pages most staff use regularly.

| Page | What it's for |
|---|---|
| **Users** | View, invite, and manage all institution users |
| **Courses** | Browse and administer all courses |
| **Planning** | Plan course delivery across terms and cohorts *(requires Planning feature)* |
| **Programs** | Manage study programs, versions, and cohorts *(requires Study Programs and Cohorts feature)* |
| **Applications** | Review and manage applicants *(requires Application Management — Fuxam Apply)* |

:::info
**Users** in the Campus Management sidebar points at the same people directory documented under [Fuxam Base → User Management](/docs/fuxam-web/base/user-management). Handbook guidance for creating users, roles, groups, and invites lives there — not under a separate CMS-only user chapter.
:::

Related handbook areas for Management work:

- [Courses management](/docs/fuxam-web/cms/courses-management) — browse, enroll, configure, and link courses.
- [Programs and planning](/docs/fuxam-web/cms/programs-and-planning) — study programs, cohorts, module planning, and monitoring.
- [Apply](/docs/fuxam-web/apply/getting-started) applicant workflows (when Application Management is enabled).

### Exam Center

:::info
Exam Center is only visible when exam management is enabled for your institution (feature package plus institution setting).
:::

| Page | What it's for |
|---|---|
| **My Exams** | Browse and manage all exams you have access to |
| **Exam Types** | Configure assessment types used across exams |

Full guidance: [Exams and reporting](/docs/fuxam-web/cms/exams-and-reporting). Rating schemas and academic rulesets are configured under **Settings** — see [Settings overview](/docs/fuxam-web/settings).

### Statistics Center

:::info
Statistics Center requires the Statistics Center feature for your institution. An administrator must also turn on reporting under **Settings → Report**. Within the center, individual pages are additionally filtered by your role's reporting permissions.
:::

| Page | What it's for |
|---|---|
| **University Statistics** | Export institution-wide statistical data |
| **Your Reports** | Access personal reports assigned to your role |

Full guidance: [Statistics](/docs/fuxam-web/cms/exams-and-reporting/statistics).

### Database

Database holds the foundational academic data that the rest of Campus Management builds on.

| Page | What it's for |
|---|---|
| **Curricula** | Create and version study curricula |
| **Modules** | Define and manage course modules |
| **Rooms** | Manage physical and virtual rooms and their calendars |
| **Chronology** | Configure academic terms that drive planning and booking |

Full guidance: [Academic structure](/docs/fuxam-web/cms/academic-structure).

:::tip
In practice, treat Database as upstream of Planning and Courses. Defining modules and terms before heavy enrollment work reduces rework when curricula change.
:::

## Favorites

You can pin any Campus Management page to your favorites bar by selecting the star icon next to a page title in the sidebar. Favorited pages appear at the top of the sidebar for quick access.

Favorites do not grant extra permissions — they only shortcut pages you can already see. If a page later disappears from your sidebar because permissions or features changed, it will no longer be available as a favorite either.

## Extended CMS capabilities

Beyond the four sidebar groups above, FuxamCMS can include additional operational areas that appear when their features and settings are enabled. They are documented in this handbook under CMS:

| Area | When you need it |
|---|---|
| [Health insurance](/docs/fuxam-web/cms/health-insurance) | German GKV / Krankenkassen immatriculation and exmatriculation reporting. |
| [Smart documents](/docs/fuxam-web/cms/smart-documents) | PDF templates and generated certificates or contracts. |
| [Time tracking](/docs/fuxam-web/cms/time-tracking) | Working-hours logs, models, and exports. |

These may surface through Settings, user profile tabs, or Campus Management-adjacent management flows rather than as permanent top-level peers of Database — always confirm visibility with your administrator if you expected them and do not see them. Setup paths are listed in [Settings overview](/docs/fuxam-web/settings).

## Why am I missing pages?

If you cannot see a section or page listed above, one of three things is usually happening:

- **Your role** does not have the required permission for that page.
- **Your institution** does not have the feature package that includes that section.
- **An institution setting** is still off (for example, Exam Center or Statistics reporting), even though the package is present.

See [Permissions, features and visibility](/docs/fuxam-web/settings/permissions-and-features) for the full decision guide, and [Settings overview](/docs/fuxam-web/settings) for where administrators configure switches.

## In this section

The gates that decide what appears in your Campus Management sidebar.

**[Settings overview](/docs/fuxam-web/settings)**

## Best practices

- **Design roles around jobs, not individuals.** Map planner, registrar, exam officer, and read-only auditor needs to named roles before inviting large staff cohorts.
- **Onboard with a sidebar tour.** New administrators should open Campus Management once with a mentor who has the same intended role, then compare sidebars — differences are the fastest way to catch missing permissions.
- **Pin high-frequency pages.** Favorites for Courses, Programs, or My Exams cut daily navigation cost without changing access.
- **Build Database before scaling Planning.** Terms in Chronology and stable modules/curricula make planning and enrollment predictable.
- **Use Settings for go-live, Campus Management for operations.** Flip Exam Center or Report when processes are ready; run daily work from the sidebar.

## Common pitfalls

| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No **Campus Management** in navigation | No Campus Management-related permissions on the role | Review [Roles and permissions](/docs/fuxam-web/base/user-management/roles-and-permissions) |
| Empty or short sidebar | Feature packages off, or only core Management permissions | Check feature packages and [institution settings](/docs/fuxam-web/settings) |
| Colleague sees Exam Center; you do not | Exam feature/setting off for institution, or your role lacks exam permissions | Confirm both gates in the [visibility chapter](/docs/fuxam-web/settings/permissions-and-features) |
| Favorite disappeared | Page no longer permitted or feature disabled | Re-check permissions; re-star if access returns |

## FAQ

**Is Campus Management the same as FuxamCMS?**

Campus Management is the workspace you open from the dashboard. FuxamCMS is the campus management module whose tools primarily live in Campus Management. In everyday speech staff often use the names interchangeably; in this handbook, Campus Management means the UI shell and FuxamCMS means the administrative capabilities.

**Where did User Management go in the handbook?**

User management documentation lives under [Fuxam Base → User Management](/docs/fuxam-web/base/user-management). The Campus Management **Users** page is the same operational area — Base is the correct module home for roles, invites, and people data.

**Why do I land on a different page than my colleague?**

Fuxam opens the first Campus Management page your role is allowed to access. Different roles produce different landings even inside the same institution.

**Can Favorites unlock hidden pages?**

No. Favorites only pin pages that are already visible under your permissions and feature packages.

**Where do administrators turn features on?**

In institution **Settings** — see [Settings overview](/docs/fuxam-web/settings). Feature packages themselves are contractual; settings switch packaged areas live for your campus.
